What is English country dancing? It's a form of social dance that stretches back to Elizabethan times and was popular when Jane Austen wrote "Pride and Prejudice" and "Emma". (The streaming series "Bridgerton" was a send-up/romp-with-a-fun-twist of Austen's novels.) The dance form has endured and evolved over the centuries -- and you can attend a dance right here in Vermont, on your own, with a partner, or with some friends.
On Friday, January 17th, you'll move to beautiful music by violinist Peter Macfarlane, pianist Aaron Marcus, and violist/violinist Sarah Babbitt Spaeth. Barrett Grimm will teach and walk-through each dance, then will prompt as you dance to the music. All instruction is non-gendered. Here's a video of a dance we plan to do: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFbL3rvb2hg
Best suited for teens and adults with the ability to walk briskly. Wear casual, comfortable clothing and shoes with low heels (flip flops don't work!) Newcomers are welcome - come for the lesson at 6:30pm and then dance to live music at 7pm. $10-$15 sliding scale (pay what you can). Bring your own filled water bottle.
