Public Safety Education Forum

Feb 26, 2025, 6 to 8 PM

New Location Announced for CPARB Public Safety Education Forum.

The location for a Public Safety Education Forum put on by the Community Policing Advisory Review Board (CPARB) has changed. The new location will be at the Bennington Firehouse located at 130 River Street in the third floor multi purpose room.

The date and time remains February 26, 2025, at 6 pm. The meeting will also be broadcast live by CAT TV and live streamed on the CAT TV Facebook page and http://youtube.com.

The forum will include an overview on the work of the CPARB and brief statements from a panel of guests including Chief Paul Doucette of the Bennington Police Department, Lt. Steven Coote of the Vermont State Police, State Attorney Erica Martha, Psychiatrist Dr. Alya Reeve from United Counseling Service (UCS), and Town Manager Stuart Hurd of Bennington.

The focus of this event is a discussion about factors that increase community level violence, and prevention strategies in Vermont. We will also discuss the lower violent crime rate in the state and Bennington and possible reasons for the decrease. Following this will be a discussion on why offenders of serious crimes are sometimes released without prison time, ending with a conversation about the risks of vigilantism.

No cost childcare will be available for parents wishing to attend this event. To do so, you must reserve in advance by calling 802-500-2770.

If you would like to make a comment or ask a question but are unable to attend the meeting, you may comment online on the CPARB page on the Town website at:
