Friends of the Winooski River have been spending a lot of time on the Stevens Branch lately, and Executive Director Michele Braun will provide a report on some of their work in progress. FOTW collected water quality samples from the full length of the river last fall and plan to go back for more this year, as well as continuing to work with Stone Environmental to identify and eliminate pollution sources in Barre. The engineering work needed to remove three dams from the river is nearly complete, and lead project engineer Jessica Louisos from SLR will report on these exciting projects.
There is a River Access Master Plan underway in Barre, and FOTW wants to hear from MadDog members about your experiences on the Stevens Branch that could inform that plan and other aspects of our efforts to make the Stevens Branch cleaner, healthier, and more resilient. See more about the work and mission of FOTW here.
