Please join us on Saturday, January 18 at 10:00 am for a special Walloomsac River and Downtown Walk. The walk marks the fourth anniversary of the murder of Emily Hamann on the Riverwalk. Emily's mother, Kelly Carroll, will share reflections and invite the community to remember Emily at her memorial on the walkway.
The walk will also highlight an individual and an organization working on behalf of the community.
Dr. Robin Tarnas will receive this month's Unsung Hero award for his years of service to our community's well-being. In addition to tending our health as a primary care physician, Bennington has benefited from his volunteer work. This work includes but is not limited to creating and maintaining public outdoor spaces, enriching our children's education, and addressing food insecurity in the community. When called upon, he joined other volunteers to staff the covid center delivering vaccines during the pandemic.
The walk will conclude at the Bennington Free Library at 101 Silver Street for light refreshments and recognition of the Library's contributions to our community.
The walk will begin at the Rotary/Bennington Station Park on Depot Street between Main Street and River Street. We will meet in the parking lot behind MSK Engineering and proceed along the Riverwalk to Park Street. We will stop by the Walloomsac Apartments at the memorial to Emily Hamann to remember Emily and to present the Unsung Hero award. The walk will conclude at the Bennington Free Library at 101 Silver Street.
Walloomsac Walks take place on the third Saturday of each month. Please note that the walks begin at 10:00 a.m. from November through March and in spring and summer they begin at the earlier 9:00 a.m. hour.
The walks are pet-friendly, and people of all ages are invited to come out and enjoy this ongoing community event. In the case of inclement weather, cancellation notices will be placed on Front Porch Forum and the Bennington Blotter. Unsung Hero nominations may be submitted at https://tinyurl.com/bennhero.
