The ceremony honors the selfless service of the Four Chaplains, who gave their lives to save others servicemen while the USAT Dorchester was sinking after being torpedoed by a German U- boat on February 3, 1943 in what was one of the largest sea disasters of WWII.
Gilman and Lunenburg Methodist minister Chaplain George L Fox was one of the Four Chaplains and a true Vermont hero. The Four Chaplain's sacrifice and bravery continue to inspire generations. To honor Rev. Fox's legacy, we have created a memorial that not only pays tribute to his heroic actions but also serves as a place of worship and reflection. This memorial chapel will host The Four Chaplains Ceremony each year either on or the Saturday before February 3rd.
