Crafting Peace, Feeding Syrian Refugees

What: A peace and love themed craft night open to participants who pay a suggested $15 donation. Donation covers all materials. 100% of the donations will go to The United Nations World Food Programme in an effort to help them continue their aid to Syrian Refugees. We will celebrate the completion of the crafts by hanging them all around Montpelier in a Crafting Peace art show, and we will be auctioning off the artwork with 100% of the sales going to The World Food Programme.

Why: A funding crisis has forced the UN’s World Food Programme (WFP) to suspend food vouchers to more than 1.7m Syrian refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey, Iraq and Egypt, leaving hundreds of thousands of displaced families facing a “disastrous” winter and increasing the risk of further instability in the region. If new funding arrives in December, WFP will immediately resume assistance using their electronic vouchers program. We hope to raise a minimum of $1,500.00, and funds will be electronically transferred to the WFP immediately, no later than December 27th. We will provide all businesses and individuals involved with a receipt of funds donated.

Who: We are Robyn Joy Peirce and Maggie Lenz. We are loving, active community members and optimistic day dreamers. Robyn’s birthday is December 22nd and she wanted to do something to send some loving kindness out into the world.

What you can do to help: We are mainly in need of crafting supplies, and we use that term loosely. Trash turns to treasure; we expect a creative bunch here. Other than supplies, we are open to all suggestions, and individual/business donations. We are also looking for businesses to host the Crafting Peace art show after the crafts are finished.
