Please join us this Saturday, November 16 at 10:00 AM, when Donna Stone will be honored as a Bennington Unsung Hero. Each month, the Walloomsac River Walk committee highlights an individual and an organization working on behalf of the community. The walk will include a presentation of the Bennington Unsung Hero Award, which recognizes individuals who have quietly gone above and beyond on behalf of our community.
Donna Stone is receiving the Unsung Hero award for her years of service to the community, dedication to the children of Bennington, and efforts on behalf of the American Legion Post 13 Auxiliary. This month's walk will conclude at Greater Bennington Community Services (GBCS) where we will thank Grateful Hearts for their tireless work.
Donna is a long-time educator in Bennington and an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an organization that promotes the professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education through service programs of action.
She is also a member of the Vermont Retired Educator Association and received their Vermont Retired Educators Association 2024 Volunteer of the year award at their annual meeting this past September. Donna organizes Bennington's "Give 10 to Education" school supply collection program and manages the American Legion Auxiliary's Youth and Children program which resulted in the Post 13 Auxiliary receiving a national award - out of more than 1000 units that submitted.
She spends countless hours volunteering for greeting card, cookie and personal item drives for the Veterans at the VT Veterans Home.
November's walk will begin at 10 AM at the Rotary/Bennington Station Park on Depot Street between Main Street and River Street. This month's walk will end at the Greater Bennington Community Services (GBCS) on Depot Street for refreshments provided by the Grateful Hearts. Program. Grateful Hearts has been serving up delicious nourishing meals since 2013 to our neighbors. With partners like the Vermont Foodbank, local farmers, and volunteers who give their time and hearts, they're not just handing out meals; they're nurturing a community where everyone is fed, seen, and valued.

Walloomsac Walks take place on the third Saturday of each month. Please note that the walks begin at 10:00 a.m. from November through March and in spring and summer they begin at the earlier 9:00 a.m. hour.
The walks are pet-friendly, and people of all ages are invited to come out and enjoy this ongoing community event. At the beginning of the walk we can see the progress on the new Bennington Skate Park. As part of a collaboration between the Better Bennington Corporation (BBC) and the North Bennington Outdoor Sculpture Show (NBOSS), participants will be able to view several sculptures along the walk. In the case of inclement weather, cancellation notices will be placed on Front Porch Forum and the Bennington Blotter.
