Weaving Workshop Invitation

Jan 19, 2025, 9:30 AM to 3 PM

The Green Mountain Weavers and Spinners Guild will be hosting a full day weaving workshop on Sunday, January 19, from 9:30 AM to 3 PM. It will be held at the Harper Center in Williamstown. There is no cost for the workshop but attending the workshop does require Guild membership which takes about 3 minutes on-line, and up-to-date annual dues of $20. The sign-up link can be found at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScoRaDlxg92AAMaa4LWE-1hv9d160H0hj0Ge6bDDmpEE9NvFw/viewform.

Guild Member and current Hill Institute student Tony Pisano will lead the event. Using a number of 4 shaft looms that have been warped (i.e. dressed with warp threads), Tony will walk us through the basics of reading a draft, doing a simple drawdown, showing that structure set up on the loom, and weaving a sample. For those who have not woven before, or not in a long time, "reading a draft" translates to interpreting the pattern; and "doing a drawdown" translates to making a visual diagram that represents the structure of the woven fabric, showing how the warp and weft threads interlace with each other. We will then be able to examine how the structure is set up on the loom, and each of us will be able to weave some samples that we will be able to take home from the day.

Pre-registration for the event is required. Please contact Sue Andrews for more information.
