The Burlington Civic Symphony Orchestra (BCSO) presents this Saturday its Fall Program of three Romantic masters: a Rossini Overture, a Sibelius Suite, and Beethoven's rousing Seventh Symphony.
Concert is at 7 p.m. at the Elley-Long Music Center, Colchester, Vermont
Tickets are available at the door ($5 students/$20 seniors/$25 adults) or through our website https://www.bcsovt.org/.
A note from our guest conductor for this season, Cole Marino:
All three selections on our program were composed in the spirit of national pride and unity. Gioachino Rossini's opera Semiramide was his last opera in the Italian style – a gift to his countrymen before he left Italy for Paris. Jean Sibelius, famously a Finnish nationalist, composed the Karelia Suite at the beginning of his career – a musical portrait of a historically significant region. Ludwig van Beethoven's seventh symphony was written in part as a response to Napoleon's growing aggression across Europe. All the music on our program comes from composers who loved their respective countries deeply. In the last several weeks I've been inspired by their example as artists who used their voices to be active participants in the national discourses of their day, and this program reminds us all of music's unifying power. Your friends and neighbors in the BCSO eagerly await the opportunity to share this beautiful program with our community.
We hope to see you there!
