I'm Leo Colby and this is a meeting to organize a New Orleans themed party in mid January featuring gumbo and jambalaya. It's a fundraiser to send me back to New Orleans for a two week visit in February to see friends and participate in Queer themed parades.
The 11/9 meeting needs local folks who have organized area fundraisers and contribute advice, offer a venue (Red Clover has been suggested) and the best dates and times for this event, as well as help with logistics.
Gumbo samples and ample snacks will be offered with a limit of approximately 25. Suggested donation is $5 per person. The social room at 30 Conant is reserved and seats 25+ with a full kitchen, large dining room and generous living area near the front door. There will be signage on the front door. I assume parking at 802 Spirits/the post office is possible but I'll check with them. The building has an elevator and is handicapped accessible. Everyone understands we have commitments so please come and go as necessary. Anyone who e-mails me their interest, I'm happy to send photos of me dancing in the Queer Northshore Little Shop of Horrors float at Abita Springs Push Mow judged parade last February.
The gumbo and jambalaya will be right out of the River Road Recipes book though my cooking style was influenced by two stellar southern cooks I had the pleasure of living with in New Orleans.
I have made this trip dozens of times since 2011. Green Mountain garage just got my van in great running shape. I will have New Orleans stories to share and hope others have something they'd like to contribute to the event. I will have Mardi Gras throws on exhibit as well. The Mardi Gras colors are purple, green, and gold and the focus of the event is fun and fine food. Live music is possible and livestreaming WWOZ is also possible. You may have seen me cutting a rug with Emma at the Brandon Inn costume ball.
I look forward to meeting y'all and am excited to enlist help from a kind and generous community so invested in local events. If anyone can bring hot cups and paper plates, please do e-mail me at writedmc@gmail.com or text/call 505-388-8381. Bringing your own mug and masking is encouraged. Laissez les bon temps roller!
