The Planning & Community Development Department and Building Inspector are launching an awareness campaign to help property owners who have yet to obtain permits for flood repairs and replacements.
During the initial days following the July 2023 flood, the City relaxed permitting requirements to allow property owners to begin flood repairs before obtaining a permit. To comply with City regulations, permits for repairs from the July 2023 Flood must be obtained by December 31, 2024.
As of October 2024, the only charge for flood recovery permits is the State recording fee, which is $30.00. This will continue until the City Council directs otherwise.
One of the key messages of this effort will be spreading the word that the Planning & Community Development Department and the Building Inspector are here to help residents and business owners comply with flood regulations. They will be reaching out directly to property owners who have not yet obtained necessary permits, as well as conducting a broader community awareness campaign around how the City can help Montpelier property owners make their buildings more flood resilient.
The City's Zoning Administrator and the Communications Coordinator will be hosting a pop-up info booth at the Kellogg-Hubbard Library from 10am - 2pm on Monday, October 21st. Stop by and say hi, ask questions, and learn more about how the City can help you save money and improve your flood resilience.
