Since 1970 volunteers have made the Newfane Heritage Festival in the heart of historic Newfane village a fall season destination. Once again, people will celebrate community, crafts and entertainment. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., on Indigenous People's Day weekend, Saturday and Sunday, October 12 and 13, rain or shine.
Over 65 juried artists and craftspeople will display and sell their work in the tents set up on the Town Common in front of the historic Windham County Courthouse and the Union Hall. The sound of music will fill the air on both days, and the Morris Dancers will perform on Sunday afternoon.
Food is served outside under the big tent in front of Newfane Congregational Church. The menu includes breakfast sandwiches, doughnuts, clam chowder, lobster rolls, gluten-free carrot-ginger soup, slow roasted corn chowder, chili, baked potatoes with lots of topping options, hamburgers, bacon cheddar cheeseburgers, hot dogs, egg salad sandwiches, potato chips, cold beverages, hot and cold local apple cider, and coffee. Desserts include pumpkin cheesecake, homemade apple pies (whole and in slices), apple crisps, and ice cream.
The Super Raffle will be held inside of Union Hall and feature about 175 items, including quilts, art pieces, homemade crafts, and gift certificates to local establishments and businesses. Tickets are sold at the door and the drawings will take place starting at 3:00pm on Sunday. If winners are not present at the time of the drawing, they will be contacted that evening and can arrange to pick up their prize on Monday.
No dogs at the festival, please – for the safety of the children, festival attendees, and the artists and their creations.
Proceeds of the event go to benefit the Newfane Congregational Church, including broad community support and its missions. For more information, go to the Newfane Heritage Festival website or telephone the Newfane Church at 802-365-4079.
