Jeffrey Diteman, co-translator & literary scholar will be in conversation with Shanta Lee, a regional award-winning artist & intellectual on the reissue of The Maroons by Louis Timagene Houat. The Maroons was originally published in Paris 1844 and was soon after confiscated and declared "a threat to public order" by the French colonial government.

Diteman & Lee will discuss the importance of translation in the process of collaborative translation and the contemporary relevance, including the potential uses of this novel in the classroom as it illuminates the timelessness of the racial and social justice issues which we face today.
