Fall Foliage Festival Walk
The Calais Conservation Commission, along with the Calais Trails Committee, will host a walk on the Broadview Farm Trail Network this year, one of the official Calais town trails. This farm will be known to many of you. It has long been owned by Bill Blachly and is the site of the Unadilla Theater. Part of the trails are also on land owned by Tim Howe.
Tom Blachly, the chair of the Calais Trails Committee, and Bill Blachly's son, will join the walk to share stories of his life growing up on the Blachly farm.
The walk will be Saturday, October 5, 2024, starting at 9:00 a.m. It should last approximately 1 and 1/2 to two hours. Meet at the roadside parking area on Blachly Road, about a quarter mile Northeast of the Unadilla Theater. Please do not block the road.
Mark Brown, a member of the Conservation Commission and a resident of East Calais who has hiked these trails many times, will coordinate the walk. It will be designed to avoid the steeper inclines on the most southerly parts of the system, while highlighting the fantastic views available on the trail.
Dogs must be kept under the owners' control at all times and should be on leashes in areas where cattle or other livestock are in the vicinity.
