Join the Shoreland Subcommittee this Thursday at 5pm at the North Hero Community Hall!
Learn about what each of us can do to help slow the growth of cyano-bacteria blooms in Lake Champlain. We will introduce lakeshore residents on strategies we can use help slow the drainage of phosphorus into the lake. We'll break down some of the shoreland buzzwords like 'vegetated buffers', 'impervious surfaces', and 'sheet erosion,' and introduce the Lake Wise program: a free, voluntary program for Vermont residents where a specialist comes to your property to make suggestions about individual actions you can take to further protect that lake.
As a special treat, after the presentation there will be a tour of three North Hero residents' properties on Savage Point. You will have an opportunity to learn about how the program works, and how you can sign up for a free assessment!
The North Hero Shoreland Subcommittee is holding its 2nd educational event on how to improve water quality and shoreline health around Lake Champlain. We will be joined by specialists from the Friends of Northern Lake Champlain, Vermont Lakes & Ponds and the Grand Isle County Natural Resource Conservation District. Come and join us! Light snacks and refreshments will be provided...
Our previous event on the Shoreland Protection Act (SPA) was a great success, and this program proves to be just as interesting. Please come and bring your questions, your concerns, and learn about action plans that are being considered to improve the water quality for North Hero!
We hope to see you there!
