Saturday and Sunday, Warren native Pamela Rickard stars in Samuel Beckett's greatest showcase for an actress, the role of Winnie in "Happy Days."
This masterpiece of absurdest comedy is widely considered Beckett's most accessible work, and - while it bears all the trademarks of his offbeat sensibility - is laugh out loud funny. Marriage, memory, the ravages of time, and female resilience all come into new focus as Winnie is literally buried up to her neck over the course of the play.
As the great Dame Peggy Ashcroft once claimed, "Winnie is one of those parts that actresses will want to play in the way that actors aim at Hamlet—a 'summit' part."
