This year the New England Youth Theatre Summer Classics camp presents a series of three comedic one-acts written or conceived by legendary 19th-century Russian playwright Anton Chekhov. In The Power of Hypnotism, a young woman uses mysterious powers to stave off lovesick suitors as she waits for her true beau to return. The Bear sees a dimple-cheeked widow lost in her mourning until a brash creditor comes calling to collect what her dead husband owes him. And in the masterful The Proposal, an anxiety-ridden man arrives with the goal of asking his neighbor's daughter to marry him but discovers their opinions differ greatly on some key points. Chekhov subtitled each one of these shorts as a "Joke in One Act," so come have a laugh with us!
