Sixteen brilliant singers present music from Caucasus Georgia, the Balkans, and Corsica, American shape-note songs, and traditional Yiddish songs. The group is led by Lysander Jaffe, Liam Kantor, and Lexi Ugelow.
Village Harmony is an umbrella organization founded in 1989 and based in central Vermont, dedicated to the study and performance of ethnic singing traditions from around the world. In a normal summer the organization sponsors 9-10 different study-performance ensembles involving both teen and adult singers, usually with five in the US and the others overseas. Each group develops its own unique sound during a week-long residence learning their concert repertoire with a unique international team of leaders. But all of the ensembles share common traits: a powerful, natural, unrestrained, vocal sound; a remarkable variety of vocal styles and timbres, as appropriate to the many varieties of ethnic and traditional music; and the visible, vibrant community among the singers and audience as they share in a joyous celebration of music.
