Just an UPDATE Emergency Shelter in RVs (EHRV)

Q and A with BCS

Our model for Homeless Shelters in RVs in Brattleboro began in 2022, when we first asked town officials for new permitting process for the unusual project. It became a tested community-based true emergency shelter, away from crowding and drugs, a cheap solution for the homeless crisis. It can save thousands of people from sleeping in the snow. There was no cooperation within town government. In late 2022 we brought the first of three RVs to our headquarters in Brattleboro and offered shelter to homeless people in them. Then the town began suing us for zoning violations and health hazards. In April 2023 a Superior Court ruled that our shelter was safe enough. We did not have an attorney, and in three other "trials" our defense evidence was suppressed. In April 2024 some charges were dropped. We removed the RVs and began a small shelter in our house. We are still being sued for $10,000/day (now total $4 M). If the town prevails, it will be a precedent for prosecuting individual activists for actions of non-profit corporations.

UPDATED UPDATE

Per notice Friday, the Town is threatening to sell our house.
