E.&G.G. Hook Pipe Organ Sesquicentennial

Susan Summerfield, organist, with special guests, soprano Jessica Voyer and bagpiper Timothy Cummings, will present a program at First Baptist Church, 81 St. Paul Street, Burlington, on Sunday, November 2nd, at 4:00 p.m. This concert continues the celebration of the 150th birthday of the pipe organ at the church, which was installed in October 1864.
Admission is free; donations to support the maintenance of the organ and the programs of the church will be accepted. There will be a reception following the concert.
The organ was built in 1864 by the prestigious firm of E. & G.G. Hook of Boston, as its opus 342. At the time, it was reported to have an unusually fine and bold sound. The instrument is unchanged since then, except for the addition of an electric blower to replace the hand-pumped bellows, and continues to delight and inspire.

Susan Summerfield is professor of Fine Arts/Music at St. Michael's College and is a former organist at First Baptist Church.

Chiefly a bagpiper, Timothy Cummings is a Vermont-based composer and multi-instrumentalist who enjoys a diverse repertoire , including music from Scotland, Ireland, Cape Breton, Brittany, and Appalachia.

Soprano, Jessica Voyer, received a Bachelor of Music from Westminster Choir College. Her vocal experience is both choral and solo. She recently taught voice at St. Michael’s College and has directed choirs for many years.

First Baptist Church is located at 81 St. Paul Street just north of City Hall Park. For more information, contact the church office at (802) 864-6515 or visit the First Baptist Church website at http://fbcburlingtonvt.com.
