Tree-Of-Heaven Scavenger Hunt - Registration Required

Past event
Jun 15, 2024, 11 AM to 2 PM

Spotted lanternfly (SLF) can harm agricultural crops such as grapes, and large infestations of the adult leafhopper can make outdoor recreation very unpleasant as they rain down a sticky honeydew.

With established populations of spotted lanternfly just over the border in Massachusetts this invasive leafhopper is close to Southern Vermont and could easily travel up 91 or the railroad corridor to establish in Southern Vermont. Come learn how to spot the spotted lanternfly's favorite host tree.

What we'll do:
Learn to Identify the spotted lanternfly and Tree-of-Heaven.
Learn and join the Tree-of-Heaven Community Science project, using iNaturalist.
Receive an SLF trap for your property.
Sign up to scout for Tree-of-Heaven.
Search for Tree of Heaven nearby, if weather allows.

Workshop Leaders:
Ginger Nickerson, Forest Pest Education Coordinator, UVM Extension – Vermont Urban and Community Forestry
Judy Rosovsky, State Entomologist, Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food and Markets

This event is perfect for adults wanting to learn about these invasive species, and who have access to a smartphone or laptop for using the iNaturalist mapping app.

Registration is required to help ensure there are enough materials for everyone.
Registration ends June 8th.
