Join the Vermont State Archives as they celebrate Archives Month with a book talk by Gary Shattuck, on Thursday, Oct. 23 at 6 pm. Shattuck's book is entitled "Insurrection, Corruption & Murder in Early Vermont"; in it, he explores the infamous raid by Federal authorities on the smuggling boat the Black Snake, which left three Vermont men dead and led to Vermont’s first execution.

Shattuck will share the story behind his book, including his research and use of early Vermont court records held in the State Archives. The author will also sign copies of his book. An open house and tours of the Vermont State Archives and Records Administration will precede the program, beginning at 4pm. Shattuck’s talk is scheduled for 6pm. This event is free and open to the public.

The State Archives are located at 1078 US Route 2, in Middlesex - Directions are available here - https://www.sec.state.vt.us/archives-records/contact-us.aspx
