In conjunction with the Emile A Gruppe Gallery's current exhibit of needle art, Window on Vermont, Ellen Thompson will be be giving a talk about antique samplers entitled "It's 1824. What's Your daughter Learning at School?"
Ellen is the manager of the Vermont Sampler Initiative, a project to identify American schoolgirl samplers made before 1900. Her talk will focus on how these important historical "documents" help to inform us about our past. As a long time embroiderer and history buff, the Sampler Initiative has allowed her the opportunity to enjoy both. She is a member of the the Green Mountain Chapter of the Embroiderer's Guild of America.
Please join us at the Gruppe Gallery from 1 to 2 this coming Sunday afternoon for an informative and interesting history lesson on the use of the sampler in the education of young women in times gone by.
