Energy Committee Meeting
Thursday, April 18, 2024, 5:00 pm
Maple Corner Community Center and Via Zoom
Data from Efficiency Vermont have shown that communities with established, functioning energy committees have greater energy efficiency savings and have shown marked success in undertaking energy initiatives, compared to towns without committees. Therefore, at the request of the Calais Selectboard, there will be a meeting to discuss forming a new Calais Energy Committee for the purpose of working on energy and climate change issues.
Johanna Miller, Energy and Climate Program Director for the Vermont Natural Resources Agency will attend to talk about how other Vermont towns have established and used Energy Committees.
At the meeting we will discuss:
The vision, mission and goals of the committee. The committee could develop, propose, and help implement a wide range of energy and climate projects and initiatives, and/or serve as local "experts" to guide decision-making by other town boards, committees and commissions on energy issues.
What form the committee will take. Committees can be structured in one of three ways: an ad hoc advisory committee, a subcommittee of an existing municipal committee (such as the Planning or Conservation Commission), or an independent municipal committee or task force appointed by and responding to the Selectboard. The structure will depend on how the group defines the committee's mission and goals.
Who would be interested in being members of the committee.
All Calais residents are invited to participate.
