To our Washington Central Unified Union School District communities:
We are writing to update you about our recently adopted FY 25 Budget. First, the Board would like to thank everyone who participated in our recent budget meetings. Thank you for your time and engagement. Like many districts across the state, we have been working on a revised budget. After a lot of listening and working with our administrators the School Board will be warning a budget of $41,662,364.00 for our District. This budget represents a 7.83% local spending increase. The work of the Board over the past few weeks has resulted in a decrease in individual town tax rates, with increases now at 17% for Berlin, 9% for Calais, 16% for East Montpelier, 12% for Middlesex, and 7% for Worcester. As a board, we took the results of the vote seriously and we are proposing a budget that meaningfully reduces spending (we have taken our 16.14% net education spending increase down to 7.83%) while preserving the opportunities our students need to succeed. This budget plus the work of our finance and reconfiguration committee that is ongoing shows the commitment of your administrators and board towards a sustainable future. We appreciate the support we have received over the years, and, working together, believe we will come out of this unprecedented time with a stronger, more sustainable school system. Please consider attending our informational meeting on the proposed budget April 17th at U-32 and via zoom at 6:15pm. Remember to VOTE ON MAY 7th.
As always, please contact any school board member with any questions.
Thank you for your support,
Your School Board
