On April 21st at 4 pm, Denise Ricker, Lotta Suter, Christopher McWilliams and Rob Griffin present "Simply Spring" an afternoon of music and poetry inspired by and in celebration of Spring. The concert will be performed at First Congregational Church of Berlin (1808 Scott Hill Road, Berlin VT 05602) and will be followed by a reception. Admission is free, with donations accepted for the FCCB Music Fund.
The concert opens with a Spring movement from "The Four Seasons" by Antonio Vivaldi and also includes Vivaldi's "Goldfinch" flute concerto, a light-hearted and delightful works full of bird songs and lovely melodies. We will be greeting the season with a lyrical piano solo "To the Spring" by Edvard Grieg, a "Spring Song" by Frank Bridge for piano and violin and many other pieces full of birds, sunshine and flowers. We will present several songs with lyrics by Robert Burns and the beautiful "A rose touched by the sun's warm rays" by Jean Berger. In addition to these and other musical pieces for flute, violin, piano and voice, the concert includes readings of some familiar and unfamiliar poems about Spring, including e e cummings' "in just - spring" and Billy Collins' "Today". The concert ends with the well-known "What a Wonderful World", in which we invite everyone to sing and hum along.
