Vernal Pool Reptiles and Amphibians

Past event
Apr 9, 2024, 7 to 8:30 PM

Many Vermont reptiles and amphibians rely on vernal pools for mating and breeding. These wet areas are critical habitat for the reproduction of species like frogs, salamanders, snakes, and turtles. In this Zoom webinar, herpetologist Jim Andrews will discuss which reptiles and amphibians use Vermont vernal pools. He will give you tools to identify different reptiles and amphibians, and discuss the natural history, distribution, and status of vernal pool-loving species. Allaire Diamond will discuss how these sensitive areas are handled in VLT's conservation easements. This event is perfect for amateurs, nature lovers, and natural history professionals, but would be enjoyed by older children as well.

Presenters:
Jim Andrews, herpetologist and coordinator of the Vermont Reptile and Amphibian Atlas
Allaire Diamond, ecologist, Vermont Land Trust
