CESU Merger Discussion Meeting - Underhill Central School

Past event
Oct 7, 2014, 6:30 PM

You may be aware that there will be a vote on 4Nov2014 to determine if all school districts that now make up Chittenden East Supervisory Union (CESU) will merge into one district, or, if the new district does form, will UCS remain an independent district. Yes, it is possible for UCS to remain an independent elementary district (stand-alone preK-4 district in the same sense it is now a stand-alone district within CESU) and for the new district to still come into existence. Indeed, up two of the existing elementary districts can remain stand-alone districts and the proposed new preK-12 district could still come into existence. If UCS does remain as a stand-alone district, our students would still attend BRMS and MMU just as they do now.

There are several opportunities to learn more about the proposed merger and the possible difference it will make to Underhill taxpayers and students. Next Tuesday (7Oct at 6:30 at UCS) the UCS board will host presentations and discussions which include the chair of the merger committee, a member of the merger committee who has reservations regarding the merger and/or the process, and Underhill residents who were members of the merger committee. Also included are the Superintendent of Schools John Alberghini, the UCS Principal Barbara Nason, Underhill MMU board members, and the UCS board.

Handouts will be available at the meeting so bring your pencils/pens so you can note questions, etc. as the presentations are made. You are also greatly encouraged to look at the documents on the CESU website prior to the meeting (www.cesu.k12.vt.us). Look for Voluntary Merger Discussion.

Also on that website you will find a list of dates and locations of other merger information meetings including one a week before the vote at UCS (28Oct at 6:30).
