Friends -
As many of you may already know, our dear Beverly M. Keck passed away this past Wednesday evening in her home. Her quiet passing marked the end of her long journey with what she called, in her own words, “this beautiful gift of Cancer,” that opened doors to relationships, and enabled her to speak plainly and openly about her life of faith.
Many of you have contacted the church and the family, inquiring about ways to be supportive of her husband, Tom, and their family during this time. In keeping with Bev's requests, family is asking that - in lieu of meals or donations to the family - you consider walking in this Sunday’s CROP Walk to End Hunger.
If you don't know the CROP walk, it is a project of Church World Service, and is organized by area churches. Proceeds go to well-documented agencies who bring food, water and resources to the areas most affected by global hunger. In addition, 25% of the money raised by Old Meeting House walkers goes directly to the Onion River Food Shelf.
The walk begins at 1 pm in front of the Barre Congregational Church, and it should take less than an hour. Our hope is that you will choose to join the walk, and then travel together (or caravan) to the Old Meeting House for the Funeral Service. In order to facilitate participation in her honor, we have arranged for Bev’s service to begin at 3 pm. To register for the walk, or to make a donation for someone who is walking in Bev's name, click here: http://hunger.cwsglobal.org/site/TR/2014FallCROPHungerWalk/TR-Fall2014?team_id=113171&pg[...]842
Lastly, we hope you will be able to join us in celebrating her life, and giving thanks to the God who created her. Services will begin at 3 pm, and will take place at The Old Meeting House, 1620 Center Road, in East Montpelier Center. Directions can be found on the church website www.oldmeetinghouse.org.
In peace,
Rev. Elissa Johnk
