Join a statewide book discussion with Vermont Reads and Richmond Free Library!
Across Vermont, libraries and other community organizations are reading and hosting events inspired by Last Night at the Telegraph Club, a stellar young adult novel with mass appeal. This book has it all: secrets, danger, first love, dancing, food, history, social commentary and a complicated, relatable heroine at the center. RFL is celebrating the book this spring with a community discussion, a swing dance lesson, and an art project with Radiate Art Space.
Set in 1950's San Francisco, Last Night at the Telegraph Club follows seventeen-year-old Lily Hu as she comes of age. Malinda Lo immerses readers in a vibrant historical setting and introduces us to characters you'll never forget. Join us as we discuss this book's many themes and topics, including the Chinese-American immigrant experience, McCarthyism, the Space Race, and 1950's LGBTQ+ culture.
Join us at 6:30pm on Wednesday, March 13.
For teens and adults. Sign up in person, call us at (802) 434-3036 or email skrohn@richmondvt.gov. Print copies of the book are available at the library and digital e-books and e-audiobooks are available in the Libby app. Want a copy to keep? Thanks to Vermont Reads, we have some print copies and are giving them out to participants on a first-come first-served basis.
