Winter Wetland Walk w/ Zapata Courage
WHEN: Saturday, February 17th from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm
WHERE: Stephens C. Trombulak Sanctuary. We will meet at the Boathouse Bridge. Parking is available at the Middlebury Recreation Center and a small parking lot across from the Transportation Center on Creek Road.
WHO: This is an event for people curious about our local wetlands. Be prepared to hike on uneven ground with potential icy patches. Children 7 and up are welcome if accompanied by an adult. No dogs.
There is a limit of fifteen people for this event.
COST: Free, register here - https://forms.office.com/r/6PKmX2EfwK
WHAT: Come meet us at the Stephens C. Trombulak Sanctuary in downtown Middlebury, a hidden gem alongside the Otter Creek River. The Sanctuary has a variety of upland and at least 4-5 distinct wetland habitats. These areas will be explored and discussed, with some plant identification (yes, even in the winter), as well as conversation around the animals that use these areas. Over 70 species of birds and 14 species of mammal have been observed here.
Wear outdoor clothing and appropriate footwear for hiking in the woods/wetlands. There may be some icy patches, so crampons/yak traks are also encouraged.
A reminder email with more details will be sent out closer to the event.
