The Wallingford Historical Society will be presenting Gary Shattuck, author of “Insurrection, Corruption, and Murder in Early Vermont: Life on the Wild Northern Frontier” at the September 30th meeting which will be held at the Town Hall at 7:00 P.M. Now retired, Mr. Shattuck is a Shrewsbury resident who spent 35 years as a state police trooper and federal prosecutor. Mr. Shattuck will talk about the 1808 “Black Snake Affair” and the War of 1812 with an emphasis on the involvement of Wallingford, Danby, and Tinmouth residents. One Wallingford militiaman, Lieutenant Alexander Miller, built the Upton house on Main Street and his blacksmith shop where the Old Stone Shop is now located eventually became today’s True Temper. The letters between him and his wife form a key part of Mr. Shattuck’s work.

You will find this talk intriguing as well as informative. Who would have thought that some Vermonters turned to smuggling? The program is free and open to the public. The Wallingford Historical Society would love for you to join them on this date to hear Mr. Shattuck’s discussion of this book.
