The Valley Players will hold auditions for Poet's Choice by Mary Pratt on Sunday, Dec. 3 at 4 pm and Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 6:30 pm at the Valley Players Theater, 4254 Main Street (Rt. 100), Waitsfield. The play is the 2023 winner of the Valley Players' Playwright Award and will be directed by Doug Bergstein.
The play asks: What if an angel gave you a choice between a life of happiness or fame and fortune as a result of expressing your art? That is the question that Margaret, a poet, writer, and English professor, must face. Pem, a fallen angel chosen by God and Satan themselves to settle this wager, comes to earth to find an artist to pose this question to, with admittance to heaven & wings or hell & a flamethrower on the line for Pem.
People who are new to theater are encouraged to auditions along with those more experienced. The script is available on the Valley Players website for reading but no preparation or memorization is required to audition. Roles include 2 women aged 25-40 and 35-80, 1 man aged 30-50, and 4 any gender, any adult age. Rehearsals will take place Mondays & Wednesdays from 6-9 pm and Sundays from 4-7 pm starting in early January, 2024. Shows will be Fridays & Saturdays at 7:30 pm and Sundays at 2 pm, March 8-17.
