This Saturday, Nov 4 will be our last day of work this season on the ski trails and glades at the former Dutch Hill Ski Area in Readsboro. We'll be giving the steepest slopes one last look, and fine tuning some new skiable lines that have been added on the Yankee and the Dyke. Meet at 9:00 in the parking lot on Route 100, wear a hard hat and gloves, bring lunch and water and your favorite clearing/cutting tool. (Except chainsaws. Don't bring a chainsaw unless you have USFS safety certification.) We'll have a few hand tools and non-chainsaw power tools that we can loan out. We'll eat lunch up on the mountain, and be back at the cars by about 3:00 in the afternoon.
The following weekend, Sunday, Nov 12, we hope to start a new project at the base of the mountain - building a puncheon (boardwalk) from the parking lot through a wet area to the base of the steep upward pitch. It will be hunting season by then, so plan on wearing something neon orange or fluorescent yellow. We'll be working out in the open area, readily visible, with loud power tools very near the road, so we don't anticipate anyone will mistake us for a deer, but better safe than sorry. This will be a great project, one that will result in dry skis, split boards, snowshoes and boots for everyone who enjoys Dutch Hill, year round.
