The founder of Circus Smirkus, Rob Mermin, learned he had Parkinson's Disease a number of years ago. He turned his attention to teaching others with PD movement disorder the circus skills he had acquired over his lifetime―especially the art of mime which he had learned under the master, Marcel Marceau.
Mermin will describe and demonstrate his experience with this new application of circus skills on Wednesday, November 1, as part of the fall series of Central Vermont Osher Life-long Learning Institute (OLLI) programs. At 1:30 at the Montpelier Senior Activity Center, Mermin will present his work using pantomime and circus techniques to help those with PD cope with movement limitations in a joyful way.
The series will continue through December 6. All presentations start at 1:30. See descriptions of the complete program at the Central Vermont OLLI website, https://learn.uvm.edu/olli/centralvt
You may register for all remaining five weekly presentations―two talks plus three films―for $40 ($70 for two) or for individual sessions at $8 apiece.
Registration should be done online ahead of time or by mail to UVM OLLI. Or if you decide to drop in at the last moment, you may send a check or pay online after the fact. All the details are at https://learn.uvm.edu/olli/centralvt
