In our next class Donlon Hurtubise will discuss the early history of Acadia which comprised much of today's Canadian Maritimes and parts of Maine, and he'll give an overview of the Acadians' brutal deportation in the 18th century. He will also cover their subsequent geographic distribution in both North America and Europe and the amazing story of the reassembly of some exiled Acadian families in Quebec. In fact, it has been estimated that half of those with French-Canadian heritage have at least one Acadian ancestor!
This primer will contain a significant amount of graphically informative material (maps and charts) rather than text, as well as guides and suggestions to specific resources and locations of interest to those exploring their Acadian roots.
The talk will be presented online using Zoom at 10:30 AM, Saturday, Oct. 28th. If you are local and would prefer to join Donlon in-person, please visit us at the library. The class fee is $10 and you can find more details and register here: www.vtgenlib.org/2023-fall-class-list/
