Save the Date! To CELEBRATE our 30th anniversary, the Middlesex Historical Society is hosting a unique film presentation and story swap at Rumney School on Sunday Oct. 29 at 4:00 p.m.
Middlesex is fortunate to be home to two talented filmmakers, David Smith of Capture: Video Storytelling, and Susan Bettmann of White Rock Productions. The Society will show Smith's 2022 18-minute documentary, "Eyesore," about the history, dismantling, and removal of the old Stockwell/Soule building, a.k.a. "the haunted house" in Middlesex Village. We will also present Bettmann's 2020 30-minute film, "Joe Picard: Man of the Land," which chronicles well-known resident Picard's seasonal working of the land, a work ethic deeply embedded in his French Canadian and Native American heritage.
After the screenings, we'll have a chance to trade stories about old times -- in or outside Middlesex -- and talk a bit about the Society's plans to create a digital Flood of 2023 photo and oral history archive.
