Lamoille Valley Osher presents Laura Rice, Executive Director of the Children's Literacy Foundation (cLif) in Waterbury Center, who believes that early literacy skills are a key predictor of future success in life and learning. Sadly, over two-thirds of fourth graders from under-resourced families in Vermont and New Hampshire do not read proficiently, and during the pandemic the achievement gap has only widened. The Children's Literacy Foundation seeks ways to help communities address these disadvantages so that all children can experience the power and the joy that reading and writing can deliver.
