Iodine Springs Revisited

The South Hero Historical Society will host Larry and Edna Viens who will tell about their experiences in Iodine Springs. The program will take place at Folsom Educational Center on Friday, September 5 starting at 7 pm.

For many years, Iodine Springs was a hotel with fifty to sixty rooms where visitors came for the healing sulphur waters. The water was also bottled and sold. There was a boathouse where guests were met and transported to the hotel. The original hotel eventually burned and was rebuilt, becoming a restaurant and dwelling. Edna and Frank Robyor bought it in 1937 and let out rooms until it was sold to their their daughter, Edna and son-in-law, Noel Viens in l947. Edna and Noel sold it to Raymond Harrison in l972.

During the time Edna and Noel ran Iodine Springs, it was quite the local meeting place. It was a place for family gatherings and Saturday night dances. Especially popular was Edna’s fried chicken dinner. Come hear how Edna found the recipe. Also, reminisce with Larry about growing up in South Hero in the late 50's and early 60's. Pictures of the original building will be shared as well as a short history. Did you know that Captain Warren Corbin owned the inn before the fire?

All are welcome to this event: members and non-members, children and adults.
