Montpelier's Capital City Concerts opens 24th season with a flood–relief benefit concert by internationally renowned pianist Jeffrey Chappell.

The Capital City Concerts season opens with a performance by internationally renowned pianist Jeffrey Chappell on Friday, September 8 at 7:30 PM at the Barre Opera House. 100% of ticket proceeds will be donated to flood relief.

Jeffrey Chappell is one of the most beloved and dazzling performers in the history of Capital City Concerts. In this flood–relief benefit concert, he will perform a blockbuster program including Mozart's Fantasy and Fugue in C Major, Beethoven's Opus 109 Sonata, Chopin's Andante Spianato and Grande Polonaise Brillante, and Samuel Barber's show-stopper Piano Sonata. The seed for this fund-raising concert idea was planted when Jeffrey Chappell wrote:

"When I saw the aerial images of downtown Montpelier, I pointed at one flooded street after another in disbelief, thinking "I have walked there...and there...and there..." Where I had walked was a town that I fell in love with immediately when I arrived to give concerts in 2000. Since then, there have been so many years, so many concerts, so many friends and memories. The people there have always welcomed me with enormous appreciation and support. Now it's my turn to show appreciation and support by dedicating this concert to them."

Jeffrey Chappell first gained national attention at the age of 24 by substituting for Claudio Arrau on four hours' notice without rehearsal, performing the Brahms Second Concerto with the Baltimore Symphony to critical acclaim. Now a seasoned veteran of the concert stage, he has performed in Europe, Latin America, Asia, and throughout the United States in recital and with major symphony orchestras. He is a recording artist on multiple prestigious labels.

All ticket proceeds will go to Montpelier Alive and Capstone Community Action to help families, individuals, and businesses affected by the recent catastrophic flooding. Tickets start at just $5. Go to www.capitalcityconcerts.org to reserve seats and learn more.
