The Manchester Community Library wants to hear from you on how we can increase the accessibility of our facilities, services, and programs. Join us for a discussion about Increasing Access to Literacy and Helping ALL Children Become Confident Readers on Saturday, August 19th from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm. This event is a collaboration with the Stern Center for Language and Learning.
The purpose of the event is to bring together local and state residents and leaders to have an engaging and informative community conversation about the current reading crisis: what it is, what it means for our kids' futures, and what it takes to increase literacy for all students, including neurodivergent learners with dyslexia and autism.
Dr. Laurie Quinn, President of the Stern Center For Language and Learning, Peggy Price, M.Ed., Fellow/OGA, Director of the Orton-Gillingham Institute at the Stern Center, and Deborah Ehler-Hansen, Project Director of the ALA Libraries Transforming Communities: Accessible Small and Rural Communities Grant (we received 20,000! to increase accessibility for our children), will lead a meaningful and engaging discussion that will include the construction of a plan on how to promote the kind of effective literacy instruction that advances equity of educational outcomes. NOW is the time to ensure that every child can read, write, learn, and thrive. Our children are our future.
If you require any special accommodations, please contact us at dhansen@mclvt.org.
This event is offered as part of Libraries Transforming Communities: Accessible Small and Rural Communities, an initiative of the American Library Association (ALA) in collaboration with the Association for Rural & Small Libraries (ARSL).
