Dear Neighbors,
I hope you are having a wonderful summer. On Monday, the City Council will convene its only meeting for the month of August. In September, we will return to our normal routine of either two or three meetings per month.
Following a very brief Local Control Commission meeting, we will begin our Council meeting at 7pm in Contois Auditorium with a presentation from Chapin Spencer, Burlington's CCTA representative. Chapin will provide us with an update on CCTA operations since the strike this spring as well as a report on the search for a new General Manager.
We will then vote on an indoor entertainment permit followed by a public hearing on an ordinance change on required lot frontage. This is the second reading of this ordinance change so the Council will be voting on this change on Monday evening.
We have several items on our deliberative agenda. We will be voting on accepting the rescission of a member of the Housing Board of Review which would reinstate this member to that board. We will then hold a first reading of an ordinance change regarding garage size and orientation.
We will be voting to accept the Memorandum of Understanding between the New Moran, Inc and the City of Burlington for the redevelopment of the Moran Plant.
There have recently been some changes to the Vermont Open Meeting law and those changes will be discussed and presented to the Council by our City Attorney.
Each year, every Commission submits an annual report to the Council highlighting activities of the past year and plans for the future. Following the Open Meeting law discussion, we will hear the annual reports for the Police and the Church Street Marketplace Commissions.
We will then have council committee reports, comments from councilors and the Mayor.
We will then receive an update from the City Attorney on Burlington Telecom and two Executive Sessions, one on the Public Service Board hearing on the BT settlement and the other on pending litigation on the buffer zone.
At some point probably prior to the Executive Sessions, the Council will recess its meeting to hold a brief meeting of the Board of Abatement of Taxes and a meeting of the City Council with the Mayor presiding. We will be voting on appointments to the Board of Assessors, the Cemetery Commission, the Development Review Board and the Board of Registration of Voters.
Please keep in mind that you are welcome to come to a council meeting and speak to the Council on any subject you wish during our Public Forum which begins at 7:30pm.

Please keep in mind that at all Council meetings are televised live on Channel 317 on Burlington Telecom.
As always, I welcome your questions and concerns. Please email or give me a call over the weekend or on Monday. I hope you have a great weekend.
All my best,
Karen
