Huntington Scythe School - June18 & 25 - Rain Shelter!

Past event
Jun 18, 2023, 8 AM to 12 PM

It's time again for Scythe School where you learn to handle, swing, and sharpen a scythe blade! Our third year is emerging with satisfying hands-on experiences planned as unplanned philosophical exchanges are sure to abound. Don't be deterred by rain - we have shelter from the rain, and as we like to say, "wet grass cuts like butter!" Half of our session will occur on a large covered timber-frame porch, and half in the hopefully easy to cut wet grass. If it's still wet, you can dry out when you need to.

We have two days planned, Sunday June 18th (father's day) and Sunday June 25th. A SNATHMAKING DEMO (a snath is the handle that holds a steel scythe blade) will be live on June 18th, and a PEENING DEMO (peening is sharpening a scythe blade with a hammer) will be live on June 25th. The school is on Sunrise Drive in Huntington.

Sharp blades, whetstones, and standing grass provided. Please bring all else you think you may need - GLOVES, boots, water, bug dope, sunscreen.

The class is offered as a GIFT to those who want to receive it. No financial barriers exist. No donations requested, just lend us your bright spirits and willingness to learn and share (and sing with us). Reply to this posting for more details!

Please RSVP so we can send you more details, such as maps to the location, and we have a headcount for our potluck meal (on the porch). Hope to see you soon, Autumn McCarthy and Michaela Stickney
