Hello, forest fans! What's better than a forest walk in May? No green bag required—all you have to pick up is your feet and your spirits! On Saturday, May 20, at 9:30 a.m., we'll meet up at the Wolcott Elementary School parking lot for a gentle hike into our woods. We'll be led by Wolcott woodsman Dave Holton and Dr. Alexandra (Ali) Kosiba from UVM. Ali was the first climate forester in the nation, and is the Extension Assistant Professor of Forestry at the University of Vermont. She applies research to help landowners, foresters, and decision-makers (that's us) better understand how to improve forest resilience.
Dave and Ali will show us how Wolcott history has affected the landscape, focusing on a small field east of the school. There are apple trees, day lilies, a possible old house site, (and some invasive honeysuckle). Bring your ideas for school projects and other uses.
We'll go until about 10:45. The terrain will be rather easy, but there might be muddy spots, so boots are a good idea. See you there!
