Hello All, If you are looking for a fun and healthy event to kick off the New Year I hope you'll consider going to a First Day Hike (hopefully the one I'll be leading at Owl's Head!). The hike I'll be leading is at Owl's Head Mountain in Groton State Forest. We will be meeting at 1pm at the parking area for Owl's Head located off Route 232. It is a fun family event designed for young children. We will hike up the road to Owl's Head and have a little fire in the shelter at the top where we will toast marshmallows, have hot cocoa, talk about our favorite things that happened the previous year and what we are looking forward to in 2025. Conditions can be good for sledding on the way back down. Be prepared, some years we have been able to walk up the road in boots, but there have been time when snowshoes were needed or some type of microspike or YakTrak if it is icy. Some people bring cross-country skis. Don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. Please RSVP so I can relay condition information if I am able to get out there the day before.
