Subject: Birding Event in Richmond this Saturday!

Hi all,

This spring I am fully-obsessed with birds, and I'm reaching out to let you know about a birding walk I'm co-leading this Saturday with Audubon VT at the Andrews Community Forest in Richmond. This will be a great chance to check out some forest management work that we've done over the last few years at the ACF, to see which birds are using this area during peak breeding season, and to talk about how we can manage forests for bird habitat. This summer, a lot of my outreach and events will be focused on a forest management project at the Catamount Community Forest in Williston, which, after three years of planning, will finally be happening this September. This project is part of a research project called Adaptive Silviculture for Climate Change (ASCC), a nationwide network of research forests whose goal is to better understand how to take care of forests in a changing climate. I'll be doing LOTS of events and creating TONS of resources for folks to learn more about this project -- see a preliminary list of my summer events, below. Birding Walk at the Andrews Community Forest w/ Audubon Vermont
Saturday, May 20

Join the Richmond Conservation Commission and the Andrews Community Forest Committee this Saturday for a birding walk at the Andrews Community Forest in Richmond. The walk will be led by Ethan Tapper (the Chittenden County Forester) and Tim Duclos (Audubon Vermont). We will visit areas of the ACF which were recently managed, discover what birds might be utilizing this new habitat during peak breeding season, and discuss how forest management can benefit bird habitat.

This walk will involve a 20-30 minute walk up some steep slopes and over some uneven terrain. Please bring your own binoculars, be dressed for the elements and make sure to be "tick-safe!"
