Duxbury Historical Society Pre-Memorial Day Service

The Pre-Memorial Day service by the Duxbury Historical Society will be held at the South Duxbury Church at 459 Route 100 in South Duxbury (across from Harwood Union HS) on May 20th from 11 to 12:30 pm. It will begin with a brief history of the South Duxbury Church built in 1855 and recently acquired by the Society. The service will include "America the Beautiful" and "God Bless America" played by Ken Spencer on the church pump organ. Pastor Sam Newton of the Wesley United Methodist Church of Waterbury will give the Memorial Day message. The service at the Church will close with "Ashokan Farewell" by Willie Docto on the violin. At the conclusion of the service at the church, the guests will walk across Route 100 to the South Duxbury Cemetery for the honoring of veterans at the Veterans Memorial Monument. The service at the Cemetery will be opened by Pastor Marie MacDougall of the Moretown Methodist Church followed by remarks from Mark Morse. The members of the American Legion Harry Cutting Post #59 will decorate the Veterans Memorial.

All members of the community are invited to join the Duxbury Historical Society in welcoming this Church back into the future fabric of Duxbury/Moretown community life as the new home of the Duxbury Historical Society.
