Singer/Historian Linda Radtke to Perform at the Library

Past event
May 7, 2023, 10 AM

Singer and Historian Linda Radtke brings the songs and stories from a centennial ago highlighting women's struggle for the vote. In period dress, Linda presents "From the Parlor to the Polling Place: Stories and Songs from the Suffragists" and features not just the national movement, but Vermont's specific role in the 80 year struggle through parlor meetings, in churches, at town halls, and the State House as women and men fought for total enfranchisement. The movement also paralleled other social justice initiatives, such as temperance, labor conditions, wage equity, peace, and children's welfare. Linda's songs are accompanied by David Gibson on piano. The event is brought to you by the Friends of the Waterbury Public Library and made possible by the Vermont Humanities Council. It will take place in the Municipality's Community Steele Room on Sunday, May 7th at 2 O'Clock. Refreshments follow the presentation.

About Linda Radtke: Linda taught English for three decades, produces the Choral Hour on Vermont Public, and is a classically trained singer.
