Do you own a sampler made by a girl or young woman before 1900? If so please bring it to the Shelburne Museum on April 22, 10:00 am to noon, or 1:00-4:00 pm. We will photograph it, record its physical characteristics, ask you how you obtained it and what you know about the maker of the sampler.
Why? Because samplers are visual records of the education of young girls and give us insight into their lives, families, and communities. Documenting your sampler for our on-line database will add to our knowledge and be available to you and to historians, genealogists and other scholars interested in the stories of our female ancestors.
You will receive copy of the photograph and learn more about your sampler from our team of needlework experts.
This event is sponsored by the The Vermont Sampler Initiative, the Sampler Consortium and the Sampler Archive with funding from the Vermont Humanities Council and private donations, and it would not be possible without the generous help of the staff of the Shelburne Museum.
