In this second presentation of our series hosted by the MRV Libraries, we'll explore the mechanics of gerrymandering, learn how it distorts the voting power of groups in the community, and uncover how it affects all Americans, regardless of where they live. As a counterbalance, Eve will present an overview of ranked choice voting, a system used in more than 40 jurisdictions in the U.S, which increases the representative nature of electoral system and decreases polarization.
While you deepen your understanding of democracy, you'll be able to stitch pieces of a collaborative banner stating democratic principles for the Warren Fourth of July Parade. We'll have activities for non-knitters too. Instructions provided. Bring red, white, or blue worsted or bulky weight yarn and US 8-10 needles or J-K crochet hooks, if you have them.
